Finding Your Inner Light
In a world obsessed with perfection, embracing imperfections might seem counterintuitive. Yet, there is profound wisdom in Leonard Cohen's words: "There is a crack in everything; that's how the light gets in." This quote encapsulates a powerful truth: our flaws and vulnerabilities are not just inevitable but essential. They are the very aspects that allow beauty, growth, and light to enter our lives and also be shared with others.
Our personal cracks and flaws are not blemishes to be hidden, but unique marks that tell our stories, reflect our experiences, and shape our identities. When we embrace these imperfections, we open ourselves to a deeper understanding and appreciation of who we are. This acceptance allows us to see the beauty in ourselves, others, and the world around us, empowering us to embark on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth.
Do you have any recurring themes in your life? Phrases or trends that keep coming up in different ways? For me – it has been “Let your light shine.”
Eleven months ago, I started this blog as a creative outlet, a space where I could share my life experiences, pose the questions that always seem to be on my mind, and explore personal growth in new and exciting ways. But this blog is not just about me. It's about us, a community of like-minded individuals on a journey of self-discovery. By sharing my stories and thoughts openly, I’ve connected with others on a similar path, creating opportunities for inspiration and insights. I’ve also found connections with others on very different paths than me. It has been a way to learn from my readers as well—I love hearing your feedback and comments!
Throughout this journey, I haven’t set boundaries for my blog. I only write when I feel inspired and include the topics that feel right in the moment. I don’t use a set calendar for posting or a list of topics I want to complete. This way, I know I provide a genuine, open, and honest look at my thoughts and personal growth.
Looking back at the diverse topics I’ve covered, there is always a running theme of inner light.
- Being an empty nester and finding your inner light
- Remembering your inner light through the Barbie movie
- Being happy and cultivating your light
- Pursuing what ignites your joy and light
- Learning to listen to your body and protecting your light
- Be a cheerleader to help others find their light
- Loving yourself and embracing your inner light
- Wellbeing and mental health strategies to guard your light
- Self-love and being proud of the light you share with the world
As a firm believer in the interconnectedness of life, I often find myself in situations that reaffirm this belief. Just last week, I had the privilege of attending a video meetup with my beloved Sholder community. This group, dedicated to personal growth and self-reflection, has been a source of immense inspiration and support for me. The theme of our last conversation was recognizing your inner light and how you share it with others. Coincidence? I think not!
Being a part of this group and helping others find their inner light has been a deeply rewarding experience. In the context of mental health, our 'inner light' can be seen as our emotional well-being, our sense of self-worth, and our ability to cope with life's challenges. Society often promotes the idea that strength means invulnerability, but true strength lies in acknowledging and embracing our vulnerabilities. It is through these cracks that we learn, grow, and evolve. When we allow ourselves to be vulnerable, we open up to new experiences and perspectives, fostering personal growth.
Consider the most meaningful conversations you've had—the ones that left a lasting impact. They likely involved moments of vulnerability, where you or the other person shared something deeply personal. These moments of honesty and openness create bonds and foster understanding, allowing the light of connection to shine through.
Life is filled with challenges and hardships. We all face moments of uncertainty, failure, and loss. These times are when the cracks in our lives become most apparent. Yet, during these moments, the light we foster in ourselves can shine through the brightest.
When life throws us its inevitable curveballs, we face a choice. We can either view our cracks as signs of weakness, or we can embrace them and allow the light to seep in. This light, born from our vulnerabilities, can manifest as resilience, hope, and new opportunities. It can lead us to discover strengths we never knew we had, and ultimately, it can guide us towards a richer, more fulfilling life.
My reminder for you is to identify and foster your inner light and embrace the cracks that allow you to share that light with others.
